Final Exam Information

April 18

The Final Examination will take place April 30, 2024 at 9:00 am in the regular classroom.

The exam is 150 minutes long. No notes, books, computers, phones, calculators or other aids are allowed. Full credit will not be awarded for insufficient accompanying work.

The final exam is cumulative. All material from the midterms will be tested. The following sections of the textbook will also be tested:

  • 5.1 Eigenvectors and Eigenvalues
  • 5.2 The Characteristic Equation
  • 5.3 Diagonalization
  • 5.4 Eigenvectors and Linear Transformations

Two practice exams have been posted in the resources section, which have similar length, difficulty, and format to your exam.

Midterm 3 Information

March 28

Midterm 3 will take place during the scheduled class period on Thursday, April 4, 2024.

The exam is 75 minutes long. No notes, books, computers, phones, calculators or other aids are allowed. Full credit will not be awarded for insufficient accompanying work.

The midterm will focus on the following sections from the text:

  • 4.1 Vector Spaces and Subspaces
  • 4.2 Null Spaces, Column Spaces, Row Spaces, and Linear Transformations
  • 4.3 Linearly Independent Sets; Bases
  • 4.4 Coordinate Systems
  • 4.5 The Dimension of a Vector Space
  • 4.6 Change of Basis

You are expected to know all the material from prerequisite math courses as well as the material from Midterm 1 and Midterm 2.

Midterm 2 Information

February 20

Midterm 2 will take place during the scheduled class period on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

The exam is 75 minutes long. No notes, books, computers, phones, calculators or other aids are allowed. Full credit will not be awarded for insufficient accompanying work.

The midterm will focus on the following sections from the text:

  • 2.1 Matrix Operations
  • 2.2 The Inverse of a Matrix
  • 2.3 Characterizations of Invertible Matrices
  • 3.1 Introduction to Determinants
  • 3.2 Properties of Determinants

You are expected to know all the material from prerequisite math courses as well as the material from Midterm 1.

Assignment 3 Due Date Extension

February 5

Due to an editing error, Assignment 3 was missing the textbook problems. They have been added. The due date has been extended to Tuesday, February 13.

The exam is 75 minutes long. No notes, books, computers, phones, calculators or other aids are allowed. Full credit will not be awarded for insufficient accompanying work.

  • 1.2 Row Reduction and Echelon Forms
  • 1.3 Vector Equations
  • 1.4 The Matrix Equation \(A\mathbf{x}=\mathbf{b}\)
  • 1.5 Solution Sets of Linear Systems
  • 1.7 Linear Independence
  • 1.8 Introduction to Linear Transformations
  • 1.9 The Matrix of a Linear Transformation

You are expected to know all the material from prerequisite math courses.
