Final Exam Information

April 17

The final exam is a take-home exam. It will be posted on the course website by 9:00 am on Monday, April 25 and will be due by April 28, 2022 at 11:30 am via email.

The rules are a little different from both the midterms and problem sets:

  • you are allowed to use your notes from class
  • you are allowed to use resources posted on the course website
  • you are allowed to use the course textbook
  • you are allowed to use SageMath
  • you are not permitted to discuss the exam with other people
  • you are not permitted to use other resources to solve exam problems

The exam is cumulative. Specifically, the material from §1.1-1.5, 2.1-2.8, 3.1-3.3, 4.1-4.6, 4.8-4.9 from the text will be tested.

I will be available by email throughout the exam period. If you have any concerns before or during the exam, then please send me an email.

Midterm 2 Information

March 17

Midterm 2 will take place in class on March 24, 2022. No notes, calculators, or other aids are permitted. You will not need to use a computer algebra package, so all computations will be doable by hand.

The midterm will focus on material from §2.4-2.8, §3.1-3.3 from the text (but you may need to know material from previous chapters.) The emphasis will be on computational skills, but some questions will demand a deeper understanding of the material. There are Midterm 2 Practice Problems available under the resources tab.

February 6

Midterm 1 will take place in class on February 10, 2022. No notes, calculators, or other aids are permitted. You will not need to use a computer algebra package, so all computations will be doable by hand.

The midterm will be on material from §1.1-1.5, §2.1–2.3 from the text. The emphasis will be on computational skills, but some questions will demand a deeper understanding of the material. There are Midterm 1 Practice Problems available under the resources tab.
